Requirements and Benefits

Hi, it’s Team Recess, your small-but-mighty FTW team that loves to play bikes!

Last year, we split our team into two separate groups–one focused on racing and the other on social rides. This year we've moved to a more inclusive and flexible model where each member can participate how they feel!

Want to focus on races? Awesome! Want to only plan social events? Awesome! Want to maybe complete a race or two but also plan social events? Awesome! We're also focusing on more face to face and social time as a team, and this is how we can accomplish this goal.

We’re asking every team member to plan at least one social event AND complete five selections from the list below during the upcoming season (April-November 2024):

Plan One Team Recess Social Event:

You’ll plan the Team Recess event solo or in partnership with one other team member. 

Examples of events include group rides, mutual aid efforts, skills clinics, and panel discussions. (Don’t see your idea listed: get creative!) We have guidelines for event planning best practices, so you’ll be supported throughout the process.

Attend Five Events:

The five required events can be a mix of any of the below types: 

  • Bike races: Any discipline, length, or type is welcome. Don’t know what races are yet or where to find them? We are here to help! “Races” are also inclusive of large organized riding events that may or may not be branded as a "race.” A big gravel or adventure ride, for instance, can count. Another important note: Team Recess firmly believes trans women are women. Trans women belong in the women's racing field. As a team, we've pledged to avoid supporting, attending, or participating in races that operate with exclusionary policies (This includes USAC-sanctioned races.) New members must agree to abide by this commitment. 

  • Team events: Team events include any event organized by Team Recess. This can look like group rides, mutual aid efforts, skills clinics, and panel discussions. You can also organize additional events on top of your required one event!


Other Requirements: 

In addition to planning one social event and attending five events, we also ask that teammates have a regular presence at and contribute to team meetings. Team Recess meetings for the 2024 season will be held on the last Monday of every month from 7:00-8:00 PM at Arbeiter in South Minneapolis (3038 Minnehaha Ave). Because this time and place works for our current team members, we are unfortunately not able to shift our meeting time for the season.
